Claypool kindergarteners recently got to experience an old-fashioned one room schoolhouse right here in their community. They visited the old building located just two miles down the road from the present one. The Clay Township District School was built in 1881. It is now on the property of Dan and Eileen Ransbottom who graciously host our classes in the building they have beautifully restored. Students participated in activities from simpler days such as spelling on chalkboard slates and playing games with marbles. They also read from a book Schools Then and Now that compared and contrasted modern schools with one room schoolhouses. Students enjoyed their time visiting for a morning, but appreciate all the conveniences we enjoy in our schools today.
